New red light in town

A second red light has been installed in Parsons at the intersection of Tennessee Avenue S. and W. 4th St. According to Mayor Tim David Boaz, the reason behind the new light is twofold – to help slow down traffic and ease morning and afternoon congestion associated with Parsons Elementary. After installation is complete, the red light will flash for about a week to allow drivers to become used to the new light. Boaz stated that cameras, which are visible at the top, are actually sensors which will be used to detect motion and allow for better flow. He added the City of Parsons will soon be applying for state aid to upgrade the intersection at the main red light as well. Read all the local news, lifestyles and sports in this week's News Leader.

Ms. Christine is definitely one of a kind!

Ninety-five year old Mary Christine Jordan says she doesn’t like slowing down, even at her age. She still wants to work and she even has an idea how she could help out!

Ms. Christine is a resident at Decatur County Manor in Parsons and she makes note that she would be just the right person to peel “those potatoes they have in the kitchen”.

“I still think I need to work and help others,” stated Ms. Christine.

Decatur County Ponytails return from World Series

What a great honor for Decatur County to represent Tennessee in the 2013 Dixie Youth Softball World Series played in Alexandria, LA. Players, coaches and fans all felt the pressure of having to carry the state name in this truly prestigious event. And how did DC perform? Not that bad all things considered, they had several chances, it was just the things that got them through district, region and the state did not seem to travel with them to Bayou country.
